    WHAT I NEED

    What do I need?
Someone who will provide my daily feed?
Beg each day for family's provisions
    Be under his rigid supervisions
And swallow his insults and suspicions

    What do I need?
Someone to protect me from lustful greed?
Covered lest be accused of seduction
    Ignore their indecent proposition
Then to be forced into prostitution

    What do I need?
Someone who will let my mind grow from seed?
A chance to go to school and learn more
To gather knowledge and in my brain store
I'll have opinions and not be a bore

    What do I need?
Someone who my weakness and moans will heed?
Be shielded from brutal violent abuse
Fists, chemicals, and other weapons they use
With Love and God as reasons for their ruse

    What do I need?
Someone who will provide my daily feed?
Someone to protect me from lustful greed?
Someone who will let my mind grow from seed?
Someone who my weakness and moans will heed?

Or do I need the right to be treated as human too?

    GOLDEN CAGE

She found Faith that she thought was a created from above
Then found a zealous man she thought was hers for love
But into a golden cage went her pure white dove
Confused, deeper into the darkness the bird dove
Trust, creating a net trap for the dreams she wove

How lucky in her marriage others often say
On a golden bed with velvet cloth she does lay
Unknown to them, she never desired to stay
Yet their jealous gossips she needs to keep at bay
Every night her freedom to God she pray
As in bed, her dignity, he happily slay

All that's good in her, he tried to destroy or quell
To the children, she's a bad wife and mom he'll tell
To others, she's a liar or her mind's not well
Slowly her lively spirit lost its light and fell
And her soul choked, while drowning in a barren well

For her children and herself, she did try to fight
But culture and church have stripped her of any right
No one wanted to listen to her grievous plight
Behind the heavy veil, she was hidden from sight
Her husband alone can have the power and might
He alone rules their whole family day and night

Controlled and deprived of right, these filled her with rage
She searched for way to unlock the golden cage
The laws of her land, browsed and studied every page
Saved every penny for a lawyer to engage
For her freedom, a messy battle she will wage

But the husband played a new kind of melody
With cunning stroke and money, changed his strategy
By deceit, she will lose the children's custody
Defeated, she succumbed to her Life's tragedy
Curtains closed down for a woman's Greek parody.

    LET ME STAND HEAD UP

Give me a place where I can lift my head and stand
Where I need not bow my head at every command
Where I won't be forced to obey every demand
Where my own needs someone will see and understand
It is not that I am a renegade rebel
I do not consider men as incapable
Nor for family structure to disassemble
I just no longer want to be owned as chattel
    Give me a place where
I can lift my head and stand
Where I no longer need to beg food from your hand
Where I can earn fair wages and my skills can shine
To have a place in this world that I can call mine
    Give me a place where
I can lift my head and stand
Where my own needs someone will see and understand
To have a place in this world that I can call mine
Where I can stand with head up as human and shine.
